The pacer is a piece of paper or cardboard that can help guide your vision and also cover the words you have already read to reduce distraction and rereading.Rapid Serial Visual Presenta tion: It is more popularly referred to as RSVP, is quickly going through a text to assess its content and value to you, as you do when riffling through a book that you may find of interest in a library or a magazine in a bookstore. It involves going through a text without any detectable pause. Typically, there is a pause of 10 milliseconds or less, between words or images. RSVP is used in many apps to train the eye to read quickly and to stop regression. It also helps in eliminating subvocalization and enhances concentration. This is the method that is most conducive for electronic media and is used by many of the speed reading apps available on the internet.SQ3R: This method of speed reading that is highly conducive for textbook reading for students. It is a step wise method that teaches you the skills of reading and understand fast. The method involves five distinct steps which are:Survey: This involves looking over the text to see what it is about, how it is structured, pay atten tion to the headings and subheading, if there are any images charts or other graphical elements examine them and the captions underneath. Go over the summary, if there is one available, and read the introduction and conclusion of the text.Question: This step requires that you form questions about the text in your mind while you are surveying it. Reduce your speed for difficult areas, and reread if there is something that is not clear. Read one sect ion at a time.Recite: Once you have read a section, recite it. Try in your own words, and answer your own questions. Take notes and write them down, highlight parts of the text that you think are important.Review: Take another survey of the text, and look over your answers, notes, etc.The overall reading speed in enhanced by survey and question parts of this strategy. If there is a doubt or confusion, highlighting helps to draw your attention to it. Other methods that have been developed based on this method are PQRST and KWL table.HOW TO SUCCEED IN SPEED READINGThe clue to learning any skill is practice, with speed reading too, you need to practice in order to succeed. The more you practice, the better you get and the faster you can read. When you first begin speed reading, use simple text or one that you are familiar with to practice your skills. Look for the text that are appropriate for speed reading, these could include legal reports, white papers, emails, etc. Apply the skills and techniques discussed earlier in the article to your reading material, scan, skim, use a pointer and highlight what is important. Before you begin speed reading, it would be a good idea to measure your current reading speed so you can mark your progress.Reading Warm-Ups: Before you start speed reading it is advisable to read something light, so you are prepared.Remove any distractions: Find a quiet area where you will not be disturbed while you read.Scanning the text: Scan the text using the techniques discussed earlier.Reading the beginning and end of the paragraphs: Read the first sentence and the last sentence of the text to get the gist of it.Prevent Subvocalization: Do not speak the words in your mind as you read.Use a pointer: Use something to guide your eyes.No multitasking: Do not try to do anything else while you are reading, this will reduce your speed. This will encourage you to form a routine and prepare you for speed reading.Getting rid of bad reading habits: Get rid of all the bad reading habits as discussed earlier.Eye Movement skills: Learn to train your eyes to make shorter and fewer eye stops while reading. Learn peripheral reading skills.Paced Reading: Set a time goal for yourself to finish reading a book or an assignment. Try and keep to your schedule as much as possible.Take breaks: If you have long hours of reading to do, make sure you take frequent breaks in between; for example, take a five-minute break every hour or so.Eye Training Tools: Play games that help to train your eyes in moving more efficiently. Here is a good resource for eye training games.SPEED READING AND COMPREHENSIONWhen normally reading at the average pace of between 200 â" 400 words, our comprehension of the text is almost 100%. While speed reading at twice or even thrice the average speed, it has been argued that comprehension of the text is compromised. Though this may be true to some extent, especially with people who have recently learned the techniques, comprehension is seen to improve over time. It takes time and practice to improve comprehension. For simple text, it is possible to have a higher comprehension, but when it comes to complex text or unfamiliar ideas and concepts, comprehension is seriously compromised when reading at speeds higher than 500 words per minute. Getting rid of techniques like subvocalization also impacts comprehension of complex text. What you are reading also has an impact, it is easier to speed read and comprehend a novel as compared to a course book, which requires greater focus and concentration while reading. While speed reading, one may take in a lot of information but the processing capacity of the brain is limited and it may not be able to deal with all the information that is being thrown at it, and hence comprehension suffers.Improving Comprehension While Speed ReadingTo attain better comprehension while speed reading, it is important that you are alert, aware and your brain is active. The more realistic view is that you can, at the most, double your reading speed and that too after a lot of practices. If you are an average reader with a speed of about 300 words per minute, you can expect to enhance your speed to say about 400 â" 500 with enough training.Most of the apps and exercises do not take into account the fact that the reading speed varies from page to page, or one paragraph to another. Another point to consider is that subvocalization is unavoidable. Even the fastest readers do it albeit at a much faster pace than normal readers. It is almost impossible to understand and comprehend what is being read if subvocalization is eliminated. In most cases, speed reading has been found to be of no help, especially if the text is unfamiliar, contains complex ideas or puts forth new concepts.

Most interviews end with the age-old, ââ¬Å"So, do you have any questions for me?â⬠If youââ¬â¢re tempted to say, ââ¬Å"Nope, I think youââ¬â¢ve covered everything, thanks for your time, stop right there. Donââ¬â¢t do it. This is asking not to get hired! Itââ¬â¢s tantamount to saying, ââ¬Å"Well, nothing you said in this interview really interested me in the slightest, so I think Iââ¬â¢ll just move onto the next firm, see ya.â⬠Bottom line: you should always, always have questions to ask. But, what kinds of questions should you ask? When interviewing a candidate to work at a law firm, whether through OCI or after graduation, itââ¬â¢s important that the potential new hire comes across as professional, but also that they are excited about the prospect of that particular job. So, how do you show this kind of enthusiasm and interest? How do you indicate to your interviewer that are amped up about this job and that if they have the choice between two candidates, they should give it to you? Well, you ask well-thought-out, well-researched questions, you listen carefully to their answers, and you ask follow-up questions if needed. Make your questions personalized, positive, and ask for advice. If for nothing else, the interviewerââ¬â¢s candid responses to your questions can be a tie-breaker later when youââ¬â¢re deciding which offer to accept. For this reason, itââ¬â¢s important to ask questions in a way that will get you the maximum ââ¬Å"realâ⬠information. What I mean by that is, if you ask, ââ¬Å"Are you happy working at this firm?â⬠The interviewer really doesnââ¬â¢t have much of a choice but to say ââ¬Å"yesâ⬠(they donââ¬â¢t want it getting back to their boss that they are unhappy!) and then they will usually tell you a little bit about why the work is interesting, the people are nice, and the opportunities are worthwhile. However, if you ask instead, ââ¬Å"What was your most gratifying accomplishment during your first year at the firm?â⬠The answer you get will be more personalized, and it will give you a concrete example of what this person values, what the firm values in them, and what these so-called ââ¬Å"opportunitiesâ⬠really look like in real life. Schema of The Process of Studies - 1133 Words
Results: Figure 1 shows the schema of the process of choosing the studies that were included in the review. The primary Pubmed search recognized 55 articles. We excluded six studies that were about gestational hypertension; eight that defined awareness asâ⬠knowledge of the effects of hypertensionâ⬠rather thanâ⬠awareness of hypertensive statusâ⬠; fifteen review papers and guidelines and five studies did not met the criteria. Ultimately 21 studies were included in the systemaic review of the awareness, treatment and control of hypertension in Egypt. Of the 21 included studies, 13 were cross-sectional, 3 case-control studies, 3 systematic reviews and 2 hospital ââ¬âbased observational studies. All the studies had both genders (male and female) represented. In most of the studies, the women were more than the men in number of particepants. Parker in his book Sociology of Industry (2005), noted from the Hawthorne studies conducted that environmental factors played a key role on motivating workers behavior. Industrial sociology would pinpoint the strategic effort places on environment to be all part of managementââ¬â¢s way of motivating or just keeping workers happy. The author highlights a clear division of labor as well as support groups, separate departments to handle each problem example Safety and Emergency Services department as well as Safety Review groups, fire Marshalls, hygienists. Tony Watson (2008) highlights a case which can mirror a comparison with the idea of groups. A researcher found that within two departments that the department with a higher level of social solidarity, were more bonded with similar experiences, and just had a group or community type setting. Bush, said the incident is likely to pose a huge political problem, similar to what President Bush faced after Hurricane Katrina. Administration officials also said the government will make changes to the way it allows offshore drilling, including new measures for the permitting process, new safety requirements for offshore rigs, and what was described as strengthened inspections for drilling operations. Having taking at least partial ownership of the crisis, the Obama administration is redoubling efforts to crack down on BP, sending a letter to CEO Tony Hayward complaining that his promises to provide complete and timely information on the spill have fallen short in both their scope and effectiveness. BP has already agreed to set aside $20 billion over several years to pay for claims resulting from the oil spill. The company has paid the U. S. government $390 million for the cost of cleanup and received an additional bill for $128. million from the Obama administration. Obama and his senior White House staff, as well as Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, are working with BPs chief executive officer Tony Hayward on legislation that would raise the cap on liability for damage claims from those affected by the oil disaster from $75 million to $10 billion. But we know plenty about language, so we can answer that first question. In fact, weââ¬â¢ll dedicate this entire blog post to explaining when (and when not) to add ââ¬Å"theâ⬠before a place name. Read on to find out more! Countries and Continents The United States of America is not the only place that uses ââ¬Å"theâ⬠in its name. Thereââ¬â¢s also ââ¬Å"the United Kingdom,â⬠ââ¬Å"the Seychellesâ⬠and many others. Essentially, we use ââ¬Å"theâ⬠for countries that encompass a group of places. So ââ¬Å"the United States of Americaâ⬠is a group of states and ââ¬Å"the Seychellesâ⬠is a group of islands. Most countries donââ¬â¢t require this article, since theyââ¬â¢re considered a single place. The other situation when ââ¬Å"theâ⬠is required is when a countryââ¬â¢s name includes the word ââ¬Å"republic,â⬠like ââ¬Å"the Peopleââ¬â¢s Republic of China.â⬠Other examples include: Definite Article No Article Required The United Kingdom England The Democratic Republic of Congo Senegal The Netherlands Belgium The Czech Republic Estonia Itââ¬â¢s worth noting that some regions used to be described with ââ¬Å"theâ⬠(e.g., ââ¬Å"the Ukraineâ⬠or ââ¬Å"the Argentineâ⬠), but that itââ¬â¢s incorrect to add ââ¬Å"theâ⬠when describing the modern countries associated with these areas (e.g., Ukraine and Argentina). Since all continents, like ââ¬Å"Europeâ⬠or ââ¬Å"North America,â⬠are singular, none require the definite article. We do, however, sometimes use ââ¬Å"theâ⬠for the regions to which continents belong, so we might refer ââ¬Å"the Antarcticâ⬠when discussing Antarctica. Also known as that place with the penguins. States, Cities and Regions States (e.g., Utah, Tennessee, Alabama) and cities (e.g., Michigan, Paris, Beijing) are almost always treated as single places. As such, they do not usually require the definite article. When discussing specific regions, on the other hand, itââ¬â¢s fairly common to add ââ¬Å"theâ⬠before the place name. For instance, we might say ââ¬Å"the Midwest of Americaâ⬠or ââ¬Å"the South of France.â⬠Lakes and Mountains Single lakes and mountains do not generally require the definite article (e.g., Lake Erie, Mount Hayes). Itââ¬â¢s important to check, however, since there are exceptions, such as ââ¬Å"the Matterhorn.â⬠Furthermore, we do use ââ¬Å"theâ⬠when describing a group of lakes (ââ¬Å"the Great Lakesâ⬠) or a mountain range (ââ¬Å"the Rockiesâ⬠). Its roles were: (1) to f ormulate the monetary policy that defines the nationââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"monetary and credit conditionsâ⬠so that maximum employment of the people, price stability, and ââ¬Å"moderate, long-term interest ratesâ⬠can be realized; (2) to supervise and regulate banks and other financial institutions for a safe and sound financial system that protects ââ¬Å"the credit rights of consumersâ⬠; (3) to maintain a stable financial system and control the risks inherent in the financial markets; and (4) to serve the local and foreign governments with the facilitations for transactions, including services in connection with the payment system (BoG 2005, p.1). Over the years, it has evolved into influencing the demand and money supply situation of a country, using the four (4) standard means. The first is known as the means through ââ¬Å"Open Market Operationsâ⬠whereby the Federal Bank may reduce or increase money supply by limiting the amount and/or volume of purchases or sal e of US Treasury securities. When the Federal Bank purchases securities from the open market, more cash is made available in the economy. When the Fed sells Treasury securities to cash-rich investors for them to have a stable income source at an attractive interest rate, the country will have less money supply circulating. A 2nd means would be through the issuance of a directive for all banks to maintain a certain reserve requirement. These are in the form of cash in amounts determined by the percentage of deposits by consumers. Reserves are then deposited with the Federal Reserve Bank. To increase money supply, the Fed can simply lower the required reserves for all deposits. To decrease the level of money supply, reserve requirements may be increased so that there would be less lending operations on the part of banks and therefore lower money supply available in the economy. The 3rd way is by adding the requirement to have reserves in the form of ââ¬Å"Contractual Clearing Balance â⬠(BoG 2005, p. 3). Some transactions with payments that take some time to clear between two banks can be secured by additional reserves at the Federal Bank. Such amounts are on top of the 2nd means which is the reserve requirements by the Fed. Bill had just wrecked his parentââ¬â¢s BMW in an accident, and they had no idea that the expensive car was even missing from the garage. And a terrible thing had happened as a result of the crash. A young woman lay dead in the passenger side of the vehicle, swarmed by medics. Bill had escaped injury, but as his body was still at the crash site, his mind wasnââ¬â¢t. He was in total shock at what had happened. If I only left the car in the garage and didnââ¬â¢t try to ââ¬Å"borrowâ⬠it, Lisa might still be aliveâ⬠¦.Bill tried to imagine that it wasnââ¬â¢t real, that he was in his bed dreaming, but no, he was responsible for the destruction of his parentsââ¬â¢ car and his the death of his girlfriend. It was as if his mind wasnââ¬â¢t registering, as if it was in some far away place. He just couldnââ¬â¢t come to grips with what had happened. This is a classic example of severe shock. The event that took place was so strong that the mind has trouble working. While in Billââ¬â¢s case where he had indeed had an accident, the realism of the situation dwarfs the mind as if a small comet hurtled towards a blazing sun. But this is just one aspect of realism. The whole of realism is made up of the fact that our lives, the world, the universe, itââ¬â¢s all real. And as much as our minds would want to deny it, everything will stay real, and for most people they just make the best of it. But for the rest of the people, they invent new ways to get around the feeling that a wall has been placed in their path. All this goes to say that people must be original and ââ¬Å"keep it realâ⬠to survive the physical and mental fatigue life throws at them and also that everything will always be real and we must be in touch with our minds to harvest the realness. à à à à à Bret Harte tells of a story where a group is outcast into the world to fend for themselves during the winter season. Gen/105 Week 7: Reading and Comprehension Project 1. The main point of this written piece was to tell the reader what the eight most successful secrets were to delivering a knockout presentation in your business affairs. A lot of people at companies just make boring PowerPoint slides and it has so much irrelevant information that the point of the meeting is masked by a weak presentation. This article shows what to do and how to make a great presentation. 2. Each section of this paper dealt with a new and exciting way to capture the attention of a viewer of your business slides. The writer states to ââ¬Å"dig deepâ⬠by adding new information and giving more to the viewer. ââ¬Å"Avoid Info overloadâ⬠shows that too much information can be detrimental to a project, people can bored and wander off. In the section ââ¬Å"Practice Deliveryâ⬠, it talks about how to memorized your speech and practice what you are saying. This will avoid mistakes, mishaps and fumbling with words. Also, the writer says to ââ¬Å"forget comedyâ⬠, by leaving the humor out the project is more professional and shows that you are serious. By ââ¬Å"pick powerful propsâ⬠shows your audience that memorable ideas and notions can be obtained by using props, so the audience can remember ideas and thoughts associated with the presentation. Another secret is to ââ¬Å"minimize youâ⬠, this means take out information relating to you or the business, because people already know what this information is. It waste space and time, and people can get sidetracked. ââ¬Å"Speak the Languageâ⬠notes that speaking as you always do will help minimize confusions with acronyms and abbreviated words. Be professional but make sure everyone can understand what is been said. Last but not least, ââ¬Å"simple slidesâ⬠states that you should use slides in your presentation to highlight important information and key words, donââ¬â¢t let the slides overrun the presentation. 3. The questions that came to mind when I was reading was significant. They dealt with how to maximize information during presentations and how do I apply material that are useful in my projects. I donââ¬â¢t want to use unnecessary information that is irrelevant. I also asked myself if using pictures and props were a good idea. I found out that these two tools are necessary to keep the audience engaged in what youââ¬â¢re talking about. 4. I feel like that I have great note taking skills. I always note key words and phrases. If I have a long or difficult reading I always break it down in paragraphs and take notes on key sentences. I also use an outline format which helps greatly. It is almost like the article written in my own language so I can understand it better. I always use my notes to go over information instead of trying to re-read an entire article to find important facts. 5. I will use notes to retain this information for later use. My notes can be very well written as well as the reading, with the same information available. I always keep notes to look over for extra information and key points. 6. I think the SQ3R method does help my reading and comprehension skills improve. By skimming the article I mentally note key words and phrases. I can see how each paragraphs ends and if there are any vocabulary words noted. Noting questions is helpful as well. Keeping in mind question I would ask about the article will help me find an answer to it within the paper. I believe the method does help a lot especially when it comes to larger papers or article that I need to comprehend.

Lisa is a candidate for interventions that address her traumatic past, her attachment disruptions, and the internalizing behaviors. She could possibly benefit from Attachment, Regulation, and Competency (ARC) treatment or CBT. Her internalizing behaviors may impart be associated with her insecure attachment that was a result of her not feeling safe and aforementioned disruptions with attachment figures. In order for the ARC intervention to be utilized her grandfather and ideally the foster parents would have to participate. This would be challenging due to the grandfatherââ¬â¢s mental illness, his assumptions regarding Lisaââ¬â¢s anxiety and depression being a result of the loss of her mother, and his resistance to an ongoing relationship with the foster parents. Prior to this intervention, it could possibly benefit this family system to give the grandfather psychoeducation on attachment with the desired effect being that he would be an open and a willing participate.
